Keeping Your Pets Safe

Having a pet is good for you in so many ways, but are you good for your pet? There’s nothing more upsetting than seeing your pet hurt or lost when you could have done something to prevent. You probably already consider your pet to be part of your family, but are you doing everything that you can to take care of them and ensure their safety?

Keeping Your Pets Safe

At Home

On an everyday basis, there are several things you can do to keep your pets safe at home. First of all, check for anything that might be toxic to your pet. Certain indoor plants, cleaning products, even some foods like chocolate and raisins can be poisonous to your pets. Make certain that they are stored where your pet can’t get into them. Secondly, do your due diligence researching the food that they eat to make sure that it’s healthy. Not all pet foods are created equal. Last but not least, make sure you have a way to control ticks safely and treat for fleas as well.

On the Road

If your pet is traveling with you in the car remember to keep them safe. Once you arrive at your destinations, keep a close eye on your pet. If any other member of your family gets lost, they can talk to explain who they’re looking for and where they came from, but your pet can’t. Make sure that they have a collar that fits them and has your address on it. Consider microchipping as well.

All Their Lives

Be sure to find a reputable local veterinarian and keep up to date on shots. Regular checkups with the vet can be a lifesaver; many conditions that can prove fatal are easily preventable if you catch them early. You love your pet, and your pet loves you. They deserve to be safe and healthy in your home.
